Im personally not the biggest fan when it comes to Nick Cage's movies. He is a decent actor tho. I thought the National Treasure series was ok, but not the best. SO i watch this and then i realize that National Treasure would be better off with Harrison Ford and Nick Cage IS BETTER action movies like this one.
This movie was awesome, a hitman that "goes by the rules" and assures his kill seems like a guy Nick would be, right? I thought this movie was good from start to finish. I wasnt bored at the slow parts and the action was awesome. Bangkok IS Dangerous, lol.
I am waiting for a Nick Cage and Jason Statham movie, arent you?? They would be an awesome duo. I HAV A SUGGESTION!! They should be in a Army of Two movie(army of two is a video game in case u didnt kno, yalll should think about that.)
Anyways check this movie out because its pretty good. |

I thought I was going to enjoy an all action movie with little plot and little character development, well I was partly right.
There isnt much in the way of plot and the charaters are wooden and predictable.
Unfortunatly there is not enough action and far too much time spent trying to make us care about the characters, but we dont care about them because they are 2-D, predictable and boring
All in all, I would recommend that if you must see this, wait for it to come on tv, dont pay to see it at the cinema. |

Unavoidably boring. Everything goes without a hitch for the hero until the last twenty minutes when there's actually some conflict, a story nearly worth telling and some decent action. A generic assassin-finds-a-heart story mauled by a tedious love story, uninteresting characters and strung out direction. For die hard Cage fans only. |

I haven't said it in this forum before, but it's my belief that many years ago Nicholas Cage made an oath to himself to only take the absolute best and absolute worsts scripts offered to him - with nothing in between.
Unfortunately, "Bangkok Dangerous" falls among the latter. For starters, it's a remake of an original, Asian film by the same makers, which in and of itself isn't problematic, but it has the same problem that a lot of remakes of Japanese and Thai horror films have - it takes everything that was cool about the original film and successfully strips it away to whoever has agreed to be in the film ("Shutter", I'm looking at you).
This movie has a basic, by-the-numbers action plot - tough, no-nonsense assassin experiences romance and redemption while out on a series of jobs. The story is done rather well - but as for the execution, yikes, it's bad. This is one of the worst casted movies ever - Nicholas Cage has never, ever been believable as an action figure. And as a big, badass assassin who has a change of heart, he's not sympathetic, he's laughable.
A flick with promise, but the typical Michael Bay-ish ADD cinematography and poor casting kill it dead within five minutes of the opening frame. |

Bangkok Dangerous

Bangkok Dangerous plays like the world's coolest anime, with the exception of being live action. Often times, when the rest of the critical world agrees with me, I use them as back up to support my opinions. When they don't agree with me, I claim that the critics don't know what they're talking about, because I'm always right(Sarcasm).
The critics don't know what they're talking about. This film has a 12% on rottentomatoes.com. Now, granted that's only the generic critics, as the top critics haven't reviewed the film. (I don't know why) But, seriously, 12%? Surely this film deserves more credit than that! Maybe they didn't get it. Maybe they didn't know that it was supposed to play like an anime(which it does to a 'T'). I don't know, but I don't understand it(I'm betting that in about 10 or 15 years, the critical consensus of the film will realize, "Whoops! This is a good movie!" the same likes of what has happened to '2001: A Space Odyssey', or 'Harold and Maude').
The fact is that I loved this movie. My heart goes out to this film because, in all honesty, this is the type of film I see myself making in the future. The photography in the film is beautiful, each sequence(especially those at night) is highlighted by a seperate color. Some shots that stand out to me include a red filtered shot of two gunmen shooting at eachother through a pallet carrying bottled water, Nicholas Cage using a boat rudder to slice a man's arm off, and three bullets passing through the water in an underwater shot.
The story is about Joe(no last name, nor any of the other characters), an assassin who works for an unamed identity. It's Joe's job to travel to each location given him, find an apprentice, use the apprentice to get certain goods, kill the necessary men, destroy the evidence, kill the apprentice, and start all over again at a new location. However, while in Bangkok(beautifully photographed on location by Decha Srimantra), Joe becomes intrigued by a local pharmacist. This girl is both deaf and dumb. She's happy to help Joe, however, and soon he's asking her out to dinner. Not only that, but his new apprentice, Kong(Shahkrit Yamnarm) begins to grow on him emotionally as well. Soon, he starts teaching Kong to be a trained assassin.
So, what does this mean for the rest of the film? The Pang Brothers, who based this off of their independently made 1999 film by the same name, set up the tension with Joe's motives. Will he continue to be the heartless assassin he was taught to be? Or, will he and Kong begin they're own fraternity to battle ruthless gangsters, while Joe shacks up with deaf pharmacist girl(I didn't catch her name)?
I won't tell you. The fun is to see where the film is headed. The ending is most satisfactory.
Now for the film's faults: The musical score is generic and cheap. I hate when a scene is completely butchered because the score is trying the sell the emotion. Leave the emotion for the actors. The score should enhance the scene, not distract the audience from the scene. There's nothing worse than trying to push the point through a score that seems to say, "This is a sad part." There's a pointless relationship that Kong gets himself entangled with, all these scenes should have been cut in early drafts of the script. However, the Pang Brothers had allowed it to get past, and because of a very essential plot development in the final cut of the film, had to leave these scenes intact. Some of the action sequences(particularly those at the beginning of the film) are so unwatchable, what with the camera bouncing up and down, and the cross cutting going so fast, you can't tell what the hell is going on.
Something in me wishes that this film hadn't had these faults. I wish I could say it was in the league of the Godfather Parts I and II. I can say that it's a great movie going experience and that it's probably one of the better movies in the theater right now. But, don't take my word for it. See it. And if you don't like it, you're free to bash me to death on the comments board. |

Man I was really stoked about seeing this movie, yet it lacked the most important elements that are fundamental for me to enjoy it. Emotion, spirit and character. It was done well and may be due to my ignorance a brilliant portrayal of the players in the world of terrorism I just did not see that. It just did not do it for me. Great acting, not enough emotion. The characters were either apathetic or numb. Could be spot on with CIA, FBI and terrorists....fuck if I know. |

ugh, this was a bad film, although i am not surprised considering even its own director was bashing the film (saying fox execs butchered it). it makes me sad that some great actors signed up for this piece of crap. besides vin diesel's atrocious acting, there are just tons of plot holes, and whoever wrote the script just does not know how to do pacing. also, the last 20 minutes felt like a completely different movie and the ending leaves you sitting there thinking "wtf?". this film had huge potential because it had many unique ideas and awesome visuals, but nothing was really expanded upon. sigh, such a waste... |

A misguided film. The action was well paced, but poorly shot and edited. Characters were portrayed well, but not written or explored properly. And in the end, the plot answered all of your questions, and was original and fun, but was banking on an emotional attachment to flat and bland characters.

I love Nicolas Cage. Sometimes his acting is absolutely amazing (Adaptation), while other times it can be ridiculously bad (Ghost Rider)... and yet either way, I am impressed.
That said, I've been looking forward to seeing Bangkok Dangerous since I first heard about it. When it was recently revealed that it would not have a screening for critics -- usually a sign that a movie is very bad -- I was elated. This was certainly going to be extraordinary. When I went to see the movie, it had a 9% on RottenTomatoes: the lowest of any of Nicolas Cage's films.
Let's get right to the point. There are two other Cage films which I look to in regards to hilariously bad filmmaking -- Next and The Wicker Man. This movie is probably better made than either of those, but it is the least funny of the three. Which isn't to say that it isn't hysterical, only that it doesn't stand up to the masterpieces that have come before.
Cage plays an assassin named... Joe. Near the beginning of the film, there is an elaborate assassination scene, after which Cage proclaims dryly: "My name is Joe. This is what I do."
Joe is in Bangkok in order to carry out four assassinations, taking on a sidekick and a love interest along the way. Somehow, this is really a love story at heart -- about a killer who learns the meaning of love by hanging out with a deaf pharmacist and a wise-talking thief.
It's difficult to explain why the movie is so fun without giving away major events. There's a pointless dinner scene that almost rivals the classic "zen master and a hot dog" joke from Next for sheer comedy value.
There's a scene with an elephant that is sort of creepy in its the sexual metaphor that may lie underneath.
And then there's the final shot, which is just unbelievable in how unnecessary and faux-artsy it is.
Bangkok Dangerous is a spectacular film. See it with friends. Don't listen to what other reviewers are saying: it's got great action scenes and will not let down fans of Cage's other unintentional comedies. Wonderful stuff here. |

Finally a good hitman movie. This is more of what I expected out of the actual Hitman movie. I thought that Nicolas Cage's character was perfect for this movie. I also thought the 4 rules he had would be the 4 rules a hitman would have in real life. The only 2 things that made this movie bad were 1. his haircut is horrible, and 2. the def girl he falls for and the sum what conversations they have between the two. But with that aside I thought that he was just such a bad ass that it was awesome. I mean the part where he puts the cell phone in the breifcase and it ends up back to the contractor and he picks up the phone and he says if you ever see one of your men again I will kill your wife and then theres a laser on her head and they go to look for him and he's gone just speaks volumes. I also thought the ending was greatly done. If your an action junky this movie is for you! |

Simply by its title, we know "Traitor" has an ambitious goal. It's a film about a Sudanese Muslim who infiltrates an Islamic terrorist group to help stop an attack. The movie attempts to raise the question of who is betraying who - who is the traitor? Is Don Cheadle betraying his country? His religion? Or maybe its the terrorists who are betraying Islam.
These are complex and worthy questions, and it's unfortunate the movie only softly asks the questions, and never makes much of an attempt to ever answer them. With a cast that includes Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, and Jeff Daniels, this film had the makings of a movie with deep political and social commentary. But some great acting couldn't save a script without much emotion and direction without much drive. Instead, "Traitor" is sometimes boring and almost always uninteresting. |

I thought this movie was going to be totally differnt. Because I was like awesome Don Cheadle is amazing and another kind of Bourne movie with all kinds of sweet kung fu and shooting and action. Then on the drive there I realized that this movie is going to have like no action because the previews dont show that much. So I went in expecting a pretty deep plot where the good guy is having to be the bad guy and is trying to live with his decisions inorder to save a lot of people. And well that's what I got with a little spice of action, with a deep religious slice and then some drama. I thought the acting was great and some of the messages that were confayed in it made it that much better. The ending was pretty good also. All in all it was good and worth seeing once but I dont think i'd see it again. |
