The writer/director of the high fantasy epic Hellboy movies and the Academy Award winning Pan's Labyrinth is in high demand these days.
He is set to begin filmiing Drood, a big screen adaptation of The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Charles Dickens' final novel, which was never completed. After that, he is set to meet with Lord of the Rings director and fellow chubby/hairy/visionary, Peter Jackson, to begin working on the LOTR prequel, The Hobbit.
After that, Universal has him signed on to remakes of Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, and big screen adaptations of Kurt Vonnegut's The Slaughterhouse Five and HP Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness.
Plus, he also has agreed to produce a couple more films for Universal.
But there is some good news for Hellboy fans! He's planning on doing a third feature, which he may begin working on around 2017. |

Hang on everyone, we have another treat this morning! In addition to the first report from the test screening of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” which took place yesterday in Chicago, TLC reader Rachezee sent us a new report today. This new report goes into great detail on the dramatic Cave Scene with the Inferi, as well as the pivotal events on the Astronomy tower with Snape, Draco and Dumbledore. Again a MAJOR SPOILER CAUTION is given, scroll down to read.
Thanks so much Rach!

LAST CHANCE BEFORE REPORT
I am so sorry everyone, in my haste to write my review I completely forgot the cave scene! So here it is-
Dumbledore meets Harry at the top of the Astronomy tower and they apparate to outside the cave. As they are leaving Harry is surprised that that they can apparate from within the Hogwarts grounds, and Dumbledore says something along the lines of “That’s the beauty of being headmaster.”
The scene they apparate to, despite being slightly unfinished was nonetheless absolutely breathtaking. Cliffs and huge waves dominate the scene. Dumbledore finds their way to the anti-chamber and slits his hand (for you star trek fans – he does it in a Klingon way – straight across the inside of his hand). The wall crumbles away and Dumbledore explains to Harry that Voldemort would have set up defenses around the Horcrux.
The cave is very different than what I had pictured and than all the fan art I have seen, but still a chilling and amazing sight. It reminded me a bit of a normal cave mixed with the ice crystal place Superman goes to in one of his movies. The whole cave is a vast formation of huge crystals, jagged and rough, jutting out from the ceiling walls and floor.
They make their way to the water and Dumbledore cautions Harry not to touch it and he starts to raise the boat with magic. Then he has Harry reel it in with a very heavy long chain.
The island is a formation of crystals as is the basin. Now the only really cheesy and unspectacular thing about this whole scene is that they use a large white clam shell partially imbedded in a small rock to scoop up the potion. In my opinion it looked rather silly. Dumbledore tell Harry to force him to drink the potion and Gambon once again does a slightly better than usual job being forced to drink the potion.
At one point towards the end you can very softly hear Dumbledore mumble something like “please don’t hurt them, it’s all my fault.” But it was almost inaudible and I doubt anyone who has not read the book caught the line at all. Then after the last scoop is drunk, Gambon kind of goes back to his rather poor, unresearched acting and says with far too much strength. “Harry, Water.”
But first Harry goes back to the Basin and recovers the locket and in the background we can hear Dumbledore saying “Harry, water” getting slightly weaker each time he says it. Harry attempts to fill the basin with water the aguamenti charm, but can not get the scoop the water up with that silly shell. After trying several times and Dumbledore starting to collapse he goes to the lake to fill it there.
Suddenly the light that was emanating from the island with the basin goes out, and Harry lights his wand (most unfortunately with the non-existent spell luminous-maximus, or whatever it was he used in the beginning of the third movie), and slowly reaches down to scoop up the lake water. The moment he touches it a hand reaches out and grabs Harry’s wrist. The whole audience jumped in fear. Harry tries to fend off the inferi with all the spells we hear him try in the books. But in the end he is pulled down into the water.
Before I go on I must say the Inferi scene was one of the most spectacular of this movie. They looked a bit like the newer version of the Dementor, but much more human shaped and brownish. I fear I am not describing them well, because they were truly a scary site to see. The camera angles captured the scene of Harry trying hopelessly to defend himself and Dumbledore from them as they clambered onto the island from all different angles and the sheer number of them eventually overwhelms Harry and he is pulled down deep into the lake.
While Harry is underwater the view we have is from below him looking up and we can see the whole island from below as well. Suddenly the Inferi holding Harry releases him and he swims up to a surface covered in ferocious flame. The “ring of fire” Dumbledore conjures is an unbelievable sight, far more than I think anyone pictured in the books, but incredibly spectacular. Harry and Dumbledore climb back in the boat and the scene then cuts to Harry helping Dumbledore through the cave.
The every so anticipated lines of (I am paraphrasing) “Don’t worry sir, I’ll get us back” and Dumbledore replying “I am not worried, I am with you” are said. Executed very well by Radcliffe though rather poorly in my opinion by Gambon who clearly does not know the significant emotional value we fans know those lines have.
They then apparate back to the top of the astronomy tower. There is no dark mark in the sky. But as Dumbledore says he needs Severus not Madame Pomfrey they hear a commotion and Dumbledore orders Harry to go and hide and not come out or interfere. A command the book Harry would never have followed, but that the movie Harry would obey. Harry goes underneath the wooden floor of the tower where Dumbledore is standing where he can see everything through large gaps between the wood slates. Draco arrives and Tom does a brilliant job as a boy trying to be fierce and terrified at the same time. Some lines from the book are rather butchered by Dumbledore saying things like “Draco, you are not an assassin.” Then the Death Eaters arrive all in masks except Bellatrix and Greyback. Bellatrix urges Draco to do it though his wand lowers slightly.
Meanwhile under the floor Harry who is watching terrified with his wand at the ready is sneaked up on by Snape, whose wand is also out and puts his finger to his lips to make sure Harry stays quiet. My description does not quite capture that scene well enough, but I was surprised to find my heart ripping, perhaps because I knew what was going to happen when Snape appeared there. Snape quietly appears above, and Dumbledore, with far too much strength says “Severus Please.”
And Snape does the Avada Kadavra, and Bellatrix is ecstatic. The scene with Dumbledore being lifted into the air was unfortunately unfinished because we see him up in the air and then apparently falling down the side of the tower, but there was no motion yet. He is stationary in both scenes. I am sure more special effects will be added later. Then Bellatrix casts the Dark Mark (another amazing updated special effect with a black smoke skull and snake tongue). The Deatheaters all run out, destroying a bit of the castle in a euphoric tantrum along the way. There is no battle inside Hogwarts and the only one to chase them is Harry.
There was no Amycus or Alecto anywhere I could see. Oh, and there is no Rosmerta either. Forgot to mention that before.
Anyway, the Deatheaters set Hagrid’s hut on fire and the scene I already described happens between Harry and Snape. Harry then returns to find the whole school gathered around Dumbledore’s body, McGonagall in the front completely stunned and silent. Harry kneels down at Dumbledore’s side, brushes a hair out of his face and finds the locket, but does not open it. Clutching the locket He starts to cry and Ginny goes and holds him also crying. Then following McGonagall’s lead, everyone lights there wand (I think they all murmur something in unison but I can’t remember what) and slowly raise them as one in the air. Final shot of that scene is from above with all the lighted wands surrounding the tower, Dumbledore, Harry and Ginny.

HEROES star MASI OKA and actress SARAH LANCASTER have been banned from appearing in the SCRUBS series finale, which will hit TV screens next spring (09).
Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence wanted all the significant guest stars who have appeared on the sitcom to appear in the finale - but he has come up against TV red tape with NBC stars Oka and Lancaster, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Scrubs was an NBC show but rival network ABC has snapped up the sitcom for its last shows.
Lawrence says, "They (Oka and Lancaster) wanted to do it, but NBC said no. Typical classy stuff... It felt kind of petty to me."

One More Child 'of the Corn' Cast |

Since I've gotten away with confessing my relative apathy towards highly regarded horror classics The Shining and Suspiria, it seems perfectly safe for me to go ahead and admit that I've not yet seen Children of the Corn. I know, I know, that one isn't exactly in the same league as those two, but it does hold a reputation in its own right.
Now that a Sci-Fi Channel remake is getting into gear, I'll likely make a greater point of getting around to it (sorry it has to come to that, but call it somewhat of a personal trend). Monika Bartyzel brought up the first round of casting news, and now from Shock Till You Drop comes word that young actor Daniel Newman has been cast in the role of Malachai on the production, which just began filming in Iowa this week.
I'm going to take a stab and guess that an announcement of this singular import means that Newman will be playing the leader of the Children. If I'm wrong, you lot can go on and have your laugh, but if you're familiar with either Stephen King's original short story or the 1984 adapation, then I suspect that you get the idea of this Corn kernel.
Hey, why'd the laughter stop?

Let’s Take a Moment to Talk About Nick Jonas, Shall We? |

So there’s a story on People.com today about how Selena Gomez wrote one of the tracks on her upcoming album about current beau Nick Jonas. “It’s about a boy I kind of fell for, but he couldn’t let his ex-girlfriend go, and it was really difficult … The song is basically me saying that I’m sorry that it didn’t work out or that she used to be who she was. But you have to let me in and you have to know that I’ll do everything I can to make you happy and be the best I can be,” says Selena.
Meanwhile, a couple weeks ago, there were stories about how Miley had written her hit “7 Things” about the very same Nick Jonas.
Now, as a perfectly healthy, well-adjusted 26-year-old woman, I am, of course, intrigued and semi-obsessed with the two 15-year-old girls fighting over an equally 15-year-old boy. I follow every article, every catty YouTube video, every half-hearted apology, every bitchy T-shirt, because that’s a perfectly understandable thing for a grown woman to be doing. I don’t, however, give a shit about Nick Jonas or the Jonas Brothers, because — come on — I’m a grown woman.
And, so, when, every now and then, a photograph of Nick Jonas crosses my path by sheer accident, I kind of do a double-take. Like, “There must be some mistake. That’s clearly not Nick Jonas.” I mean, if you look up the word “goober” in the dictionary, you’re going to find this kid’s mug staring right back at you. He looks about ten years old, while Miley and Selena look about twenty-two.
When I think back with fondness on the days that Lindsay and Hilary were battling it out over Aaron Carter, I’m like, ya know, at least he was hot for his age. I get that.
And I’m sorry to sound like Jerry “Shoe Shower” Seinfeld here, but what’s the deal with Nick Jonas?
Someone please explain.

More Reports that Pete and Ashlee Are Having Twins |

Over the weekend, Pete’s pal, hip-hop artist Tyga, told reporters that Pete and Ashlee are, in fact, expecting more than one baby.
“They’re having twins,” Tyga said in an exclusive interview yesterday at a pre-VMA party. “They’re really happy.”
A rep for the couple denies the reports.
Pete launched rumors that Ashlee was having twins early in the summer when he told a couple of Arizona radio DJs that he and Ashlee were “keeping a journal for them when they’re born.” Pete later backtracked and said he was just trying to be elusive about the sex of the baby, but I didn’t believe that at the time and I still don’t. If you listen to the radio interview, you can tell Pete knows he screwed up the minute the word “them” comes out of his mouth. I think these two are having twins.

Mickey Rourke's "The Wrestler" Footage |

The Associated Press posted a clip from the upcoming Darren Aronofsky-directed "The Wrestler" film, starring Mickey Rourke, which features footage from the movie and interviews with Aronofksy and Rourke. The story revolves around a retired professional wrestler, Randy "The Ram" Robinson, making his way through the independent circuit, trying to get back in the game for one final showdown with his former rival.
"The Wrestler" was the toast of the Lido on the Venice Film Festival's penultimate day, creating a buzz that had been absent for most of the festival. The film helped the 65th edition of the Venice event wind up on a high note after days of steady criticism for what the domestic press has considered a relative lack of strong films in the lineup.
The competition film, which co-stars Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood, packed three Venice screenings Friday and has won the top award at the Venice Film Festival.

Adrien Brody Talks "Giallo," "Cadillac Records" and "Manolete" |

Cult director Dario Argento (Suspiria) is currently working on a new horror film, entitled "Giallo," starring Adrien Brody (King Kong). In the movie, an American model Celine is kidnapped off the streets during fashion week in Milan and put through a series of terrifying, humiliating and painful ordeals. Her sister Linda desperately recruits Inspector Enzo Lavia to find Celine before she suffers the same awful fate as the other beautiful victims.
WorstPreviews sat down with Brody, who is promoting "The Brothers Bloom" at the Toronto Film Festival, to get a few more details. "It's a thriller obviously about a girl," he said. "The main story line [revolves around] a taxi driver abducting women and I play a detective to find him."
Brody admits that he is close friends with Argento's daughter and a fan of Argento's work. He is glad to work on a project that he considers different from anything else he has been involved in. "It was an opportunity to explore something different," he said. "There was a number of reasons why I was attracted to that."
When asked whether it is similar to his 2005 film "The Jacket," Brody said: "This is a bit harder and darker than 'The Jacket.' 'The Jacket' was more psychological. This is I think more Dario's."
Brody also talked about his upcoming movie "Cadillac Records," in which he plays Leonard Chess, the founder of Chess Records. "You know the interesting thing, Leonard was not quite the musician, but that role was exciting, and getting a chance to understand it more and see the nature of that business also, and the harshness of the music industry, and obviously that the music of that time period influenced so much of the music that we listen today. It was powerful, it was exciting," he explained. "Leonard and I don't have as much in common as other characters that I've played, but I enjoyed it a lot."
Regarding "Manolete," which is a movie about the legendary matador Manuel Rodriguez Sanchez and his love affair with actress Lupe Sino," Brody has not heard much about when we will finally get to see it. "I hope you [see it], I sure hope you do," he said. "I don't know when, but I hope [it gets released]."

I really was blown away by Hellboy II: The Golden Army (review). It was just what I had hoped it would be.. a real epic film with some of director Guillermo del Toro's amazing creature designs thrown in. A real perfect summer flick that also had substance as well. It was fun and not taken to seriously like another insanely popular comic book hero flick that came out this year.
DVD Active has learned that Universal Home Video will be releasing a one disc, three disc and a Blu-Ray edition of the film. Not only that but they will also be unleashing a special collectors set that will include a Limited Golden Army Statue, and an excerpt from the journal of Guillermo Del Toro.
Unfortunately they haven't released any specific DVD features but we do know that the three disc version of the film will include a digital copy of the film. There is also no street date for the disc but I am guessing that it will most likely be dropping around November just in time for Christmas. Below is the artwork for the three disc edition.

Telluride Film Festival Wrap-Up |
Sep 7, 2008 |

At this year’s telluride Film Festival I saw 14 features. Two of them were new American productions, two were French, and two were from the UK. The others came from India, Israel, South Korea, and The Czech Republic. Of these, three were documentaries. One was non-narrative. In addition, I also saw four older films, two of which were silent.
I feel like I’ve seen the entire world in the last few days. Some of the films gave me a great sense of local culture and society, (With a Little Help from Myself), others aimed for political commentary (Firaaq). Some aimed to entertain, (Slumdog Millionaire) while others sought to strip glamour away (Waltz with Bashir). The constant theme was the unknowable nature of truth and the need for understanding between cultures.
I saw movies in seven languages and films from four continents. Throughout these films several concepts and dilemmas remained constant. War was a major element in seven of the films I saw. Love was a driving force in 11. Poverty was a focus of five of the films. The love of money was a major factor in four.
In between films I got to speak with David Fincher, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Danny Boyle, Ken Burns, Laura Linney, Francois Dupeyron, Felicite Wouassi, Jane Lee, Tom Shadyack, Ari Folman, Mike Leigh, Jan Sikl, and Slavoj Zizek.
It was a whirlwind.
All of the films I saw had merit, but not all of them are complete successes. Here is a brief list of the best films I saw at the festival. This list includes new and old films but does not mention the short film collection Laughing Till it Hurts because the four shorts are unlikely to ever be shown together again. Also, though I highly recommend A Private Century I did not review the film. It is actually an eight-part documentary series for which I only saw two sections. It currently has no US distributor.

'Max Payne' Director Blames Batman Bias for R Rating |
Sep 7, 2008 |
SexiVixxEN |

Talk about picking your battles: John Moore, director of the upcoming thriller Max Payne, has openly lashed out at the MPAA for granting the film a full-blown R rating instead of an hoped-for PG-13, explicitly calling out the ratings board for granting leniency towards The Dark Knight. His NSFW thoughts on the matter were brought to light during an interview with Das Gamer; I'd recommend that you head over there and give it a look-see.
Now, most filmmakers shoot for the more profitable PG-13 due to contractual obligation, and while I don't doubt that's part of the drive here -- as a studio, Fox has shown no scruples about trimming out the naughtier bits of last month's Babylon A.D. and last summer's Live Free or Die Hard -- Moore has been quite openly set on earning one. Who knows, maybe the man is actually out to prove the difference between lots of action and lots of violence, or perhaps it's just semantics as he shuffles back to the cutting room.
Moore made the PG-13 action flick Behind Enemy Lines for Fox, but also the R-rated horror remake The Omen, and judging from this most recent trailer, this seems to be a fair cross between the two in terms of genre intensity (guns and demons -- what kid wouldn't sneak in if they had to?). We'll just say how rough and tough Max Payne really turns out to be come October 17th.
[And a tip of the hat to /Film.]

The Amusing Hypocrisy of the 'Heckler' DVD Cover |
Sep 7, 2008 |
SexiVixxEN |
Other |
A few years back, Jamie Kennedy and a few pals decided to make a documentary about the ways in which comedians deal with rude hecklers. But somewhere about halfway through the movie, the guys decided that hecklers weren't all that interesting, and so they chose to set their sights on ... film critics. Debuting on DVD this week, Heckler spends a lot of time arguing about how pointless film critics are ... but then why does the DVD come plastered with quotes like these?
"Hilarious!" -- Variety
"A Must-See!" -- The New York Sun
"Extremely Entertaining" -- Film Threat
...and my favorite: "Insightful" -- Cinematical.com
Now, I'm not trying to bash the film or Jamie Kennedy (and for those who really want my thoughts on the film -- a film in which yours truly is chastised for having the audacity to write a negative movie review -- you can check out this blog post right here), but doesn't this seem just a little bit whole lot hypocritical? If more than half of your movie is dedicated to the idea that film critics are whiny little jerks who should be ignored ... then how can you plaster a bunch of (relatively) positive blurbs onto your DVD cover?
Perhaps Mr. Kennedy could explain this to us, and it's something I mentioned in the earlier blog piece: If, for example, I think Son of the Mask is an atrocious piece of junk, then I'm a clueless fool -- but if I think Heckler is "insightful," then somehow I'm transformed into a genius? Can't have it both ways, Jamie. Having said that, I don't mind throwing a little publicity towards Heckler, mainly because it's not every day I'm verbally abused in a documentary film. I'm more confused than offended, frankly, because I've been pretty complimentary towards Kennedy over the years. Even if most of the movies he's in are massive crap-heaps. |

What's the kissing scene like between Harry and Ginny Weasley?
I think Bonnie (Wright, who plays Ginny) was maybe a bit nervous, and I probably was, too. It is very much the case that it's nowhere near as exciting to film those scenes as people would imagine them to be. I hate to disillusion everyone.
Did you give Rupert any advice on his kissing scenes?
I wasn't there because they filmed the actual kiss after I had gone home one day. I couldn't watch it and laugh at him, which was deeply annoying. I love watching the scenes where Lavender swoons over Ron. I think there's a little bit of Rupert looking embarrassed, which makes me really laugh.

Nicolas Cage movie "Bangkok" bombs at box office |
Sep 7, 2008 |
SexiVixxEN |

Less than a year after starring in the biggest movie of his volatile career, Nicolas Cage returned to the top of the North American box office on Sunday with one of his weakest.
"Bangkok Dangerous," a thriller in which the 44-year-old actor plays a jaded assassin, led the lackluster field with weekend earnings of just $7.8 million, distributor Lionsgate said. Industry observers had expected an opening of more than $10 million.
Cage has actually done a lot worse: his terrorism thriller "Next" opened to $7.1 million in April 2007 and the family drama "The Weather Man" to $4.2 million in 2005. But he was last in theaters with the adventure sequel "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," which opened to $45 million last December on its way to $220 million.
The last No. 1 movie to open lower at the North American box office was the David Spade comedy "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star," which kicked off with $6.7 million in 2003, according to tracking firm Box Office Mojo.
Overall ticket sales usually tumble in September now that the summer blockbuster season is out of the way and school is back in session. The studios spend the early fall quietly dumping their underperforming movies on the market. "Bangkok Dangerous" was the only new wide release this weekend.
After three weeks at No. 1, DreamWorks/Paramount's Hollywood satire "Tropic Thunder" slipped to No. 2 with $7.5 million, while Columbia Pictures' comedy "The House Bunny" rose one to No. 3 with $5.9 million in its third week. Their respective tallies stand at $97 million and $37 million.
Lionsgate is a unit of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures are units of Viacom Inc. Columbia Pictures is a unit of Sony Corp. |

SexiVixxEN |

It’s kind of a cliche in comics. Replace a character, kill a character off, tinker with the tried-and-true formula, and call it change. Soon after, the character comes back, or is alive again — and the status quo is quo once more. “Stan Lee established this idea — don’t give change, give the illusion of change,” said Bill Willingham.
Willingham is the creator/writer of “Fables,” which after the issue that comes out this week (issue #75) is going to prove the cliche wrong. “75 is one of those milestone issues,” he said. “It will re-write what the Fables have been so far. It’s the one that changes everything, and the changes are permanent.”
For the past few years, the characters of Fables — reinvented, clever takes on Pinnochio, the Big Bad Wolf, Little Boy Blue and more — have been living among us, in a secret part of New York City they call Fabletown. Turns out Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty all share the same ex — the same Prince Charming married all of them.
The Fables living in the mundane (as in our) world are refugees — they left the Homelands to escape the wrath of a man they call the Adversary (the woodcarver Geppetto, who had conquered all the magical worlds with his wooden soldiers), but they weren’t able to escape him entirely, and so they’ve had to go to war. The shooting and spell-work started a few issues back, but the final battles are in 75, and after who won the war is determined, nothing can go back to the way it was, and a certain witch takes center stage (they call her Frau Totenkinder, but she’s basically every witch who never had a name).
“There is always one character around whom the others orbit,” Willingham said, “and she takes the center gravitational mass. She’s been laying the groundwork, moving the Fables around like chess pieces, and the war is a culmination of all that. In some ways, after 75, it becomes Frau’s series, guest starring everyone else.”
But it will be Cindy who actually gets her own series, a six-issue miniseries called “Cinderella: From Fabletown With Love,” starting next year, now that she can put her spycraft to use outside of the war effort. “She makes James Bond look like an amateur,” Willingham said. “It will be every wonderful super spy thing you can imagine her doing. You will discover how a human spy who only has one lifetime to develop his skills does not come up to snuff with her, and you’ll also learn what happened to her fairy godmother all those years ago.”
Jack Horner, who already has his own spinoff, “Jack of Fables,” will come back for a three-issue crossover miniseries, also next year, called “The Literals.” “I tend to have a rule: don’t contradict the characters as we know them,” Willingham said. “You can examine them more, take a different point of view, but you don’t re-create the facts. Jack, however, is his own thing, and as a force of chaos, he takes over any story he’s in. There can be multiple Jacks, so you’re going to find out something about Jack and his basic nature in this one.”
Because of the nature of all the stories being told, you don’t need to have read every issue to be able to jump into the comic — you already know the cast. “Why not revisit them and see what they’ve been up to since the last time you looked in on them?” Willingham asked. “It’s definitely not kids’ stuff. We’re making it as close to the evil blackhearted tone of the original stories. We’re bringing it back.”

Breaking Into The Inside Man Sequel |
Sep 7, 2008 |

Dalton Russell was never caught and you know what that means. There must be a sequel to Inside Man. Two years ago Russell told the world: “I planned and set in motion events to execute the perfect bank robbery.” And that he most certainly did. Now it looks as though Universal has finally finished planning and actually set into motion the long talked about sequel to Spike Lee's compelling box office hit, Inside Man. The second one is tentatively being called – surprise, surprise -Inside Man 2.
According to the HR, Spike Lee will be back to direct as will Brian Frazer to produce the film. Still in negations is the potential for Terry George to write the screenplay, replacing Russell Gewirtz who wrote the original. Since I’m a huge fan of Hotel Rwanda, I most certainly would have no problem seeing George get a hold of this project.
While the sequel’s storyline will not align with the original it will continue to follow the characters of its predecessor. While we all loved the quarrel between bank robber Dalton Russell (Clive Owen) and hostage negotiator Keith Frazier (Denzel Washington), it won't be hard to part with the old plot, given Spike Lee’s high aspirations for the new storyline. “I want the script to be even better than Russell’s, and Russell wrote a really good script,” he says. Lee looks to maintain the relationship between the main characters but within a new series of events. This may not be so difficult for him to achieve because, while attending the Toronto International Film Festival, Lee said both Washington and Owen have expressed interest in signing up for Inside Man 2.
Considering Inside Man got Spike the biggest opening weekend of his career, I can understand why Universal was eager to fund the project. The original grossed more than $29 million in its opening weekend and more than $88 million in total in the US. The box office better mind its money because Dalton Russell is coming around for seconds. |

British actor COLIN FIRTH finds small children "loathsome" - despite having three kids of his own.
The Mamma Mia! star has two sons with his wife Livia Giuggioli; Luca, seven, and Matteo, five, - as well as an 18-year-old son, William, with ex-girlfriend Meg Tilly.
But Firth admits he sometimes struggles to be affectionate with certain children - because they can be so annoying.
He says, "I don't always love kids. Sometimes I absolutely loath them.
"Children are just people who haven't lived very long yet. I'm predisposed to be affectionate if someone's smaller, but if they're loathsome in the first five minutes they're loathsome."

Love Iron Man? Hate cancer? Have a lot of money? (I knew that third one would be the toughie.) If you can answer YES to all three questions, then you just might stand a chance of walking through a scene in Marvel's Iron Man 2. Seems that the Stand Up to Cancer organization (you've probably seen their promo at the movies) is auctioning off one HELL of a slick Iron Man 2 package. And here's what the winner shall receive:
A visit to the set (complete with photo tour), a meet & greet with cast and crew members, a "walk-on / extra" role in the sequel, and two tickets to the world premiere of Iron Man 2. And you'll even get to walk down the red carpet at the world premiere, completely geeked out and feeling justifiably heroic because YOU donated the biggest chunk of change to a powerful new cancer research foundation. It all sounds so great ... but who knows how much this package will go for?
You can see the full details over at ComicsPriceGuide.com, and then you can check out the eBay auction page right here. (As of September 7 the bidding stands at $5,100.) Anyone want to lay a friendly bet on how high this auction will go?
(Thanks to my pal Ed and his Marvel Movies! Facebook page for this win-win news item. To the eventual winner, I say this: Well done, sir. Or madam. Well done.)

Discuss: Villains You Want to See in 'Spidey' 4 & 5 |
Sep 7, 2008 |
Petes1234567 |

Frankly I'm a little bit confused as to why Sam Raimi never allowed Dylan Baker to become The Lizard. The guy had three full movies in which to utilize the character, but then again -- I suppose "The Lizard" isn't nearly as high-profile (or as nifty) as Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, The Sandman, or Venom. But they let a one-armed Dylan Baker hang around for this long, so why not give the actor his shot at villainy already?
Having ranted that, I now turn my attentions towards some of the other (as yet unused) Spider-Man villains -- and this superhero has lots of 'em. (I'm fully convinced that Spidey's "rogue gallery" is one of the biggest reasons for the book's ongoing popularity.) I realize that some of these guys might work better on the page than on the big screen, but hey, you can't make two more Spidey sequels without two or three (or four) new villains. So even though the screenplays are probably already finished, I figure this is a fun topic to toss around...
Jason Statham as The Vulture -- I vaguely remember this green, winged character being a bit older than Mr. Statham, but Vulty was also bald and a real nasty character, so I'd still go with Statham.
Bill Paxton as Mysterio -- Dunno why I picked Paxton. Probably because he's one of my favorite actors, and I'd love to see him play a big-budget villain. Plus he wears a big fish-bowl on his head, so any good actor with a strong voice could pull this off.
Gerard Butler as Kraven the Hunter -- Like this guy couldn't play a homicidal game hunter. Plus he kinda looks like Kraven.

Mark Strong Joins 'Sherlock Holmes' -- Russell Crowe Still In? |
Sep 7, 2008 |
Petes1234567 |

Well, forget what I said about the buzz being off -- once Guy Ritchie hit the red carpet, Sherlock Holmes news started popping up everywhere. According to ComingSoon.net, Robert Downey Jr. finally has someone else to act with: Mark Strong. This is more of a confirmation than a surprise, really. When it comes to casting rumors, score one for Digital Spy! They had this weeks ago from Ritchie at BFI Movie-Con. (Internet: 1, Australian Print Press: 0.)
Ritchie is tight-lipped as to who Strong is playing -- initially, all signs pointed to Moriarty, especially since he and Joel Silver are still saying they don't have a Dr. Watson. Rumors abound over at Latino Review though -- they are saying that Russell Crowe is attached, and that he's playing Moriarty, and Strong is playing Blackwood. And look not to RocknRolla for other casting ideas, as LR says Gerard Butler was offered the role of Watson, but turned it down. It's still up for grabs.
More surprising than Strong's casting is the news that Ritchie isn't planning for Holmes to be a franchise. At the moment, he's too busy trying to make a really good debut with his reinvented detective. I'm sure Warner Bros has different plans altogether, but it's such a rariety to hear someone not pre-planning for three installments that you just have to report it. Maybe Holmes could end up like Harry Potter, and a different director could tackle each installment. No offense to Ritchie, but that could be really cool. Now if only the comic book would come out so we know what we're in for ....

Update:Why The Dark Knight will Beat Titanic |
Sep 7, 2008 |
SexiVixxEN |
Other |
Box Office analysts are predicting that The Dark Knight will finish with $530-$540 million domestically, about one Forgetting Sarah Marshall away from breaking Titanic’s $600.7 million record. But I believe they are wrong - and here’s why.
I’m sure that Warner Bros will rerelease the film in theaters eventually. The film has made a record $55 million on IMAX screens alone, and IMAX Filmed Entertainment chief Greg Foster tells The Hollywood Reporter that there is “a real possibility” of an IMAX rerelease in future years. Robert Zemeckis’ The Polar Express 3-D has been rereleased in IMAX theaters every holiday season, resulting in a four year total of $70 million. “Ultimately, it’s a decision that Warner Bros. has to make, Foster says, adding: “We’d certainly support that.”
Last month, The Dark Knight overtook Star Wars to become the second highest grossing domestic film of all time. But many people forget that Star Wars spent only a fraction of the last 31 years in the top two placements. Shortly after surpassing Jaws to become the highest grossing film of all time, Star Wars was knocked off the top by E.T. Overtaken by both Jurassic Park and Forrest Gump, Star Wars dropped the #4 of all time. It wasn’t until the late 90’s rerelease of the trilogy special editions that the film reentered the top two spots.
The stage has been set, and I’m sure it will eventually happen folks. It’s just a matter of when and how. Could Warner Bros rerelease the film in a special edition with additional footage that was cut from the theatrical release? If the studio wasn’t set on releasing a DVD in time for Christmas, they probably could have attempted some kind of special edition rerelease with extra footage. But alas, home video sales will be more profitable, especially during the holiday season.
From what I understand, there were no actual scenes that were completely cut out of The Dark Knight, only trims here and there. So I’m not sure if it would be worth it. But it didn’t stop Paramount/Dreamworks, which added a couple minutes of footage for the IMAX rerelease of Michael Bay’s Transformers. I seriously doubt Warner Bros would attempt to up-convert the film to 3D as the technology just isn’t there yet. Plus the action sequences would probably make your eyes bleed. One thing is or sure, the enviable digital conversion of IMAX theater will make the distribution of such a rerelease more cost effective.

Tons of Video Featurettes from Keira Knightley’s THE DUCHESS |

With Keira Knightley’s movie “The Duchess” opening in the United Kingdom, I’ve been provided with a bunch of video featurettes. The things to know about “The Duchess” are…the film opens in the United States on September 19th – in limited release. Also, it takes place at the end of the eighteenth century and it’s the story of Georgiana, The Duchess of Devonshire, the most fascinating woman of the age. Here’s the official synopsis:
While her beauty and charisma made her name, her extravagant tastes and appetite for gambling and love made her infamous. Married young to the older, distant Duke of Devonshire, intimate of ministers and princes, Georgiana became a fashion icon, a doting mother, a shrewd political operator and darling of the common people. But at the core of her story is a desperate search for love. From Georgiana’s passionate and doomed affair with Earl Grey to the complex ménage à trois with her husband and her best friend, Lady Bess Foster, The Duchess is a very contemporary tale of fame, notoriety and the search for love. The film also stars Ralph Fiennes, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell, Charlotte Rampling and it’s been directed by Saul Dibb.
While I’m sure some of you aren’t fans of period pieces….I am. All I can say is, when they’re done well, they can compete with any big budget Hollywood blockbuster. Will “The Duchess” be one of the classic period pieces that people will talk about for years….that, I don’t know. But I see the film later this week, and I’m sure I’ll be getting more clips to post….so I’ll tell you all what I think when I post whatever other EPK materials I get. Until then, if you’re a fan of Keira’s or just of these kinds of films…enjoy the videos we've been given.

Harry Potter HBP Screening Full Report! |

Thanks much to TLC reader Rachezee, we now have a detailed report from tonight’s test screening of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” As mentioned previously, there are details regarding Harry and Ginny’s kiss, as well as new descriptions of Slughorn’s memory and Riddle’s Horcruxes, Weasley Wheezes, Luna and the Quidditch commentary, the new scene written for the movie about the Death Eaters attack on the Burrow, and pivotal and dramatic scenes involving Snape, Draco, Sectumsempra and much much more. Caution: MAJOR SPOILER WARNING, scroll down for the full report below.

SCROLL DOWN
LAST CHANCE
Today I got to see the test screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It took place in Chicago at the AMC River East. It was a secret screening, no one in the audience was supposed to know before hand what they were seeing. I was one of only a small handful who already knew what we would be seeing, but I was sworn to secrecy. It was truly the hardest secret I ever had to keep.
It was not entirely complete, however aside from a few blue screens in the background, and one or two special effects missing, it was barely noticeable.
I am a huge fan of Ginny and Harry so I will start with them. There is a lot more Ginny than ever before. She nearly equaled Ron for screen time. We first see her at the Burrow when Harry arrives outside and the first thing he sees is her reading through the window. Harry Just stands there for a moment, gazing up at her. Although she is dating Dean Thomas she never looks happy with him, except when she is snogging him at The Three Broomsticks. She was on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. But the only game we saw was from the Felix Felicis chapter when Ron believes Harry has slipped him the potion. During Christmas at the Burrow, Ginny and Harry wind up on the stairs alone and start to lean into each other to kiss, when the attack on the Burrow interrupts them.
The Burrow does not burn down, but it is surrounded by a ring of fire conjured by Bellatrix. Harry, seeing Bellatrix, runs after her, and Ginny runs after him, right into Greyback. But Harry comes to the rescue and the two of them stand in a very high growing cornfield fending off attacks from the deatheaters. Lupin and Tonks come to the rescue, but that is I believe the last we see of them. There is no Tonks and Lupin relationship and although Tonks’ hair is brown there is no notice taken or any explanation given.
Tom Felton did a fantastic job in this film. Draco character remains true to the book, he even stamps on Harry’s nose. But, sadly, we never get the pleasure of seeing Crabb and Goyle disguised as girls. In fact, they are hardly in this movie. The Sectumsempra scene was really good, even without moaning Myrtle. As Harry and Draco throw spells at each other poor Nigel sits frozen on one of the toilets. Snape runs in shortly and McGonagall is in the doorway after Harry cast the spell (Draco never yells Crucio) and he does do a cure his wounds with a spell that sounds almost like song. But he does not use legilimency on Harry, who runs straight out of the bathroom to McGonagall. In the next scene Hermione and Ginny band together and tell Harry to hide the potions book so not even Harry can find it. Ginny takes Harry to the room of Requirement, and makes him close his eyes while she hides the book. Then she kisses him briefly. By the time he opens his eyes she has vanished.
There was definitely tension between Ron and Hermione. In the very beginning at the Burrow, Ron cleans off a bit of toothpaste from Hermione’s cheek. Later in Slughorn’s class she describes what she smells in the love potion and trails off with “spearmint toothpaste…” Lavender is quite nauseating and although she never gives Ron a necklace she does something equally as vomit worthy, steaming up a window on the Hogwarts Express with her breath and drawing a heart with “R + L” inside it. His relationship ends when he is unconscious and moaning Hermione’s name after being poisoned. He remains confused about why it ended but very relieved.
The kid who played young Tom Riddle was Brilliant. His voice and demeanor raised the hairs on the back of my neck. There is no mention of the Gaunts, but the scene in Slughorn’s office is there. Dumbledore however is truly surprised to learn that Riddle made 7 Horcruxes. It is in that scene that he realizes the ring is a Horcrux. He realizes what it was because when harry handles it briefly he moved his head like Voldemort.
We do get to hear Hagrid and Slughorn singing about Odo the Hero, and Harry is funny and a few lines where true to the book while under the influence of Felix Felicis. There is no Professor Trelawney, or the Dursleys. No Kreacher (no mention of inheriting Grimmauld Place whatsoever) or Dobby, or Bill and Fleur. There are no scenes with the Minister of Magic, and I don’t believe they even mentioned Fudge was sacked (though I may have missed it).
Oh and most sadly of all, no description from Luna about the dangers of the Rotfang Conspiracy. Nor does she commentate the Quidditch match. Luna’s role was very small, but she does have the lion hat and she is the one to find Harry on the train under the invisibility cloak with the help of her Spectrespecs.
Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes was awesome!!! I only wish it were a real store. Unfortunately no U-No-Poo sign, but it was still a sight to see.
The scene with Harry and Snape at the end was the least finished of the movie; the background was mostly screens and lights and occasionally a sound persons head. It was very close to the book, though I thought Snape could have been stronger and angrier, when Harry called him a coward. His some of his last words to Harry are “You may have your mother’s eyes but you are as dim as your father!”
As a huge fan of the books I have found myself getting more and more disappointed by all the changes in the movies and especially in Michael Gambon’s portrayal of Dumbledore who is my favorite character. That being said I was really pleasantly surprised by this movie. Many of the changes were actually entertaining and Gambon has improved enough to be tolerable. It was so much better than Order of the Phoenix. Overall I really enjoyed this movie and can not wait to see it again.

Harry Potter HBP Test Screening in Chicago? WTF!? |

Dexter star Michael C. Hall is secretly dating his onscreen sister Jennifer Carpenter, despite the disapproval of their TV bosses.
The pair plays siblings Dexter and Debra Morgan in the hit series, about a cop who secretly murders serial killers. And, according to the National Enquirer, Hall and Carpenter are an odd item in real life. They've been dating for almost a year, after Hall separated from his wife Amy Spangler.
The couple has even moved in together, angering bosses at cable network Showtime, who fear the romance will confuse fans of the show.
A source says, "For months they tried to keep the romance a secret by going to out-of-the-way places and avoiding each other on the set. They still refuse to acknowledge they're in a relationship, but everyone on the set knows they're together."
