No 2 again. This is so much darker than the other 2/5 movies. OK Episode 4 is the one that started it all, but this ones for the adults.

This is the best of the Star Wars Series. There is a complex story, lots of action, adult dialog, and no annoying rubber toy like creatures. Yoda is a muppet and looks like it but is done well enough that you believe he is a real character. I first saw this movie when it first came out at the old Leachman Theater in Stillwater OK about a month before I moved to Midwest City. At the time the revelation that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father was a surprise. Also the cliff hanger ending with Hans Solo being taken away by the bounty hunter left you wanting more. The original trio of movies had the best actors. You could believe the relationships between the characters. In the three prequels everything seemed melodramatic and unbelievable. All the story elements were explored or hinted at in Episode V. The only thing that wasn't revealed was who were the clones that fought in the Clone Wars. At the time some suggested that Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader were clones of each other and Obi Wan was a clone of the Emperor. After all in the cave on Dagoba it was Luke's face behind Darth Vader's mask and Alec Guinness played the Emperor behind a lot of makeup. As we now know the Storm Troopers were clones of each other. When the new and improved version came out they replaced Alec Guinness with Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor. Other than that there is very little change between the original version and the updated version. I have an old Laserdisc version of the original and a DVD box set of the improved versions. There is only nine minutes extra and a lot of that is in the added credits at the end. You did get to see more of the ice monster at the beginning of the movie and all the blue lines around the special effects are gone but other than that and the fact that the DVD is letter-boxed and the Laserdisc isn't, there is not much difference. But that just shows how good the original was that they couldn't make many improvements.

In the darkest of the original trilogy, Lucas's ingenuity continues to entertain and amaze. This film took more risks in going deeper in terms of plot and characterization, throwing in some cliches that you hardly notice among the spectacle. "I love you." "I know." Figure THAT, Mr. Pointy Ears. While the cheese only gets in the way once where I invariably lose it ("NOOOOOOWWAAAAHHHOOO!"), this is still a great film and a perfect prep for the best in the series.

Many geek-boy will tell you this is the best star wars film, and one of the best movies of all time. This movie had a much more different feel than the first. It introduced a lot more memorable characters but also developed the ones we already knew to a much deeper level, particuarly Solo. One of my favourite movies of all time.

This is still the shining example of a sequel completely eclipsing the original and setting the tone for the entire franchise, sans those godawful prequels. Fantasy and sci-fi with just a pinch (hear me Ep. 2? Just a pinch!) of romance makes this just delicious.

wow this was a good sequel/follow-up movie 2 the original 1977 star wars movie...i have not seen all of these movies in ages but they were really good...this has got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie...i think that the director of this Action & Adventure, Mystery & Suspense, Science Fiction & Fantasy movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout all of these movies....this has got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie

definitely the best of the original 3. lucas made a good choice when he had kasdan wrote the screenplay. few sci-fi really work, since they are faux-epics, but this one is very watchable

Any Star Wars nut would tell you this is he best of the six.Well they'd be right in every sense it had a much dark feel then most adding a new depth to the story. This is by far a true masterpiece and that still isn't saying enough.

The second installment to the original saga blasts in every direction! The Story is awesome and the classical "father" scene was monumental. Empire Strikes Back definitely strikes back!

Time has past since the "Death Star" had been destroyed, and the "Imperial Empire" is determined to enact revenge on those responsible. And those who are responsible are now hidden on the snow and ice covered planet in the "Hoth" system.

As "Luke Skywalker" (Mark Hamill) and "Han Solo" (Harrison Ford) are surveying the area around the hidden "Rebel" base, "Skywalker" sees what he thinks is an asteroid impact the planet surface near him and goes to investigate as "Solo" returns to the base. As "Skywalker" is about to go to the impact spot, he is attacked by a large "Hoth" creature and is dragged away to the creature's shelter where the remains of previous meals are strewn around the cave floor -- including "Skywalker's" "tauntaun". "Solo" then goes back out as night falls, as does the temperature, to find "Skywalker", who has killed the creature and is visited by the spirit of "Ben 'Obi-Wan' Kenobi" (Alec Guiness) who tells him that he must go to the "Dagobah" system to find "Jedi Master Yoda" (voiced and puppeteered by Frank Oz) to complete his training.

After a search party finds "Solo" and "Skywalker" the next morning, and "Skywalker" is nursed back to health in the base's medical section, the "Empire" forces attack. They are able to take over the base as the "Rebel" forces who survived the attack evacuate. "Skywalker," along with "Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2)" (Kenny Baker), head to "Dagobah" as the rest of the fleet go to the rendezvous, while the "Millenium Falcon," piloted by "Solo" and "Chewbacca" (David Mayhew), evaccuate "See-Threepio (C3-PO)" and "Princess Leia Organa" (Carrie Fisher).

Then, sometime after beginning his training with "Yoda", "Skywalker" gets a vision that his friends are in danger at a "city in the clouds" and leaves to help them against "Yoda's" demands, as well as those of "Kenobi".

But, what "Skywalker" doesn't know is that "Lord Darth Vader" (David Prowse, voiced by James Earl Jones) and the "Empire" forces has taken over "Cloud City", which was under the leadership of "Solo's" old friend "Lando Calrissian" (Billy Dee Williams), and captured his friends.

Now "Skywalker" may be their only hope.

This is a strong follow-up to the first film. It has action, suspense, and really good special effects. It also has strong performances from the cast.

The special effects are well done, and are quite believable, mostly thanks to the fact that the spaceships are models and not the fake looking CGI. The sound effects work quite nicely, as do the laser effects seen during the major battle at the start of this film.

You can tell that the cast from the original movie have melded very nicely. In my opinion, this really helps in their performances and makes the relationships of the characters more believable. Williams, who debuts in this film, made "Calrissian" a loveable rogue to rival the "scoundrel", "Solo". However, being that this is his first appearance in the original trilogy, he seems to be the odd man out and has to work and bonding with the rest of the cast on-screen.

The wardrobes are much better in this film, most notably the ones worn by "Skywalker" and "Princess Leia," who had the cheapest looking outfits in the first film. The "Imperial" outfits haven't changed since the first film, but we get to see the new "Snowtroopers" uniforms during the battle on "Hoth".

There is a few scenes with some bad editing within them. They were just badly done and looked out of place when they showed up. On the other hand, the pacing of the film is really nice.

There is some good suspense in this film. Especially during the battle on "Hoth" and the "lightsaber" battle between "Lord Vader" and "Skywalker," where we find that the two have a connection that shocked fans back when the movie was in theaters.

Despite many dated special effects and bad edits, this movie is a must see for sci-fi fans.

I enjoyed this Star Wars movie a little bit more than I did episode IV, mainly because Yoda is just a funny little guy. Still, I am not very impressed with it all.

This is the one people remember. Probably cause its the one where the most famous line regarding Luke and his family are revealed. Also, this one features the Imperial March in the soundtrack which is probably the best song in the Star Wars universe.

I hate it when people claim it to be "Too geeky". It is nothing of the sort! Just because geeks started to like it, many taking it to far (eg Star Wars conventions), doesn't mean it is geeky.
